Facilities Manager – Multifamily Portfolio
Scott Management, Inc. (SMI) is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to support the maintenance, safety, asset performance, and operational consistency of a multifamily property portfolio. This role works closely with the Director of Maintenance and on-site teams to improve maintenance execution, support capital planning, administer the safety program, coordinate vendors, assist with project scoping, and help drive accountability through reporting and KPIs.
This position is based out of our corporate office in Alexandria, VA, and requires regular travel to and work at our communities throughout Maryland and Northern Virginia.
The ideal candidate will have strong multifamily facilities experience, broad technical knowledge of building systems, and the ability to work independently across multiple properties. Experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, boilers, roofing, preventive maintenance, inspections, vendor management, and maintenance team support is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the condition, maintenance, and repair of building systems and physical assets across the portfolio
- Conduct property visits and inspections to identify deficiencies, verify work quality, and help prioritize repairs
- Partner with on-site maintenance teams to improve execution, preventive maintenance, documentation, and follow-through
- Administer and help strengthen the company safety program for maintenance operations
- Assist with project scoping, vendor coordination, bid support, and field quality reviews
- Support capital planning by identifying needs, helping define priorities, and providing field input
- Track maintenance trends, recurring issues, and key performance indicators to improve accountability and performance
- Assist with emergency response and coordination during urgent building system or weather-related events
Core Qualifications
- 5 to 8 years of experience in facilities, building engineering, maintenance management, or related project support
- Multifamily experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, boilers, roofing, and general building infrastructure
- Experience supporting maintenance teams and coordinating vendors and contractors in an occupied environment
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-up skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple properties
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly between properties
Additional Strengths
- Experience with older properties and aging infrastructure
- Experience with preventive maintenance, inspections, project coordination, and capital planning support
- Technical training, certifications, or trade background in HVAC, boilers, electrical, safety, or facilities operations
- International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) – Facility Management Professional (FMP) or Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
- Experience with work orders or property management systems
